I was thinning out some of my picture files in the computer and I came across this one. The picture below is of my Dad (left) and a guy by the name of Eddie Litzenberger (right)...a couple of Saskatchewan boys! I love Eddie's last name...."LITZENBERGER shoots he scores!" What a great last name for a hockey player. Mahovlich is another!
What's interesting about this picture (1962) is that this is actually the day of a game. They would go to the rink in the morning for a team meeting...plus a light skate.
In the olden days they actually had a dress code which also included hair! Something those poor, poor, poor millionaire players of today can't quite seem get right and those dumbass superstitious playoff beards have got to go. The playoffs are ONLY hockey's most visible public moment all year long and they choose to look like Unabombers.
And YES that's how they were dressed when they went out for a skate! Because light meant light. Today they put on all the pads and actually practice...on game day! Game day practices never made any sense to me...why waste energy? I have a lot more I could say on the subject of game day practices but I'll just leave it at that. Ok, ok, ok...one last thing. All of the present day hockey people think they're so smart and they like to tell us there's always a reason for this or that but the reality is this game was figured out quite some time ago!
